2023 layoff update

in brief: I’m asking for help to pay for 2 tears of property tax so I can keep my home. Any amount will help me have more time to find sustainable work so I can pay back taxes and stay in my home! Thanks for considering – loan or gift sending account links are below.

Hi there,

If you’re on this page, you are probably connected to me some place/somewhere and you’re curious about what’s gong on for me.

I was laid off in March 2023 because the company I worked for lost a lot of business due to COVID.

In that time I’ve been actively looking for jobs in a very competitive market, especially for my search, because so many recruiters have been laid off in the past year, so fewer companies are hiring recruiters and there are a lot of recruiters on the market, including people more senior than me who are willing to take a more junior level salary because of the market.

I’ve interviewed and continue to apply. I’ve done a lot of gig work, patching things together to keep the lights on. I’m tired!

I am seeing on LinkedIn that people’s job searches are taking much longer than before. My own mentor turned in over 1000 applications before getting an offer, and she is considered a senior level recruiter with more years of experience than me.

But I know that I will get a job!

If you are able to help extend the amount of time I have to find solutions before I lose my home, I would appreciate that and will either pay you back or pay it forward.

I’m accepting donations and also happy to pay a loan back once I’m employed again and have disposable income. No problem to sign a promissory note!

Answers to FAQs:

  • I’m spending as little as possible, and it’s hell. I eat one main meal a day, I am not using heat this winter (and my house is a 100 year old uninsulated cottage), and I only buy what’s absolutely necessary. It’s miserable and I’m hoping it will shift soon because it’s very hard. Any amount you can spare will help me with time to get a better paying job. I’ll keep the austerity up until I have more income.
  • I’m working on lowering my debt. So far nothing has been worked out that I can currently afford. If you know of resources I can consult with, feel free to reach out.
  • I’m happy to talk with you one on one about what is going on.
  • I continue to spend as much time as I can to look for sustainable employment. I have a full time job now, and it’s not a living wage. I think the employment prospects are starting to open up, and I’m also applying for roles outside recruiting.
  • I have no family able to help, no generational wealth, and have been supporting myself fully since I was 17. I had a longtime friend who used to loan me money when times got hard, and she died a month before I was laid off.
  • I’m getting support in my job search from the coaches at Dress For Success, friends, a job seeker bootcamp.
  • I’m not setting up a GoFundMe because as far as I can tell it’s just a web page with your story and a place to donate, and then GFM takes a percentage of the money given. If you want to suggest a helpful platform besides this page for fundraising, I’d love to hear it!
